Q&A: Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

Posted by

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets‘ are a band from Perth, Australia who have been making an increasingly popular name for themselves over the last couple of years. The four-piece psychedelic grunge band have been writing, recording and producing their own music. Most recently, they have began to release their own music through their own record label: ‘What Reality? Records‘.

They have been a busy group since their inception, having released two studio albums and a B-sides compilation. They’ve done their rounds of the country many times over and are ready to do it again; joining Royal Blood for their Groovin the Moo sideshows in a couple of months time.

I got the chance to ask guitarist Luke Parish a few questions in regards to the record label and the band.

We’re quickly approaching the one year mark since the announcement of What Reality? Records, are you guys on track to achieve everything you set out to do in this time frame?

As a band-produced label we had a good start last year re-pressing [High Visceral] part 1 and 2 and then pressing the new 10″ B-sides. It was a great year for just setting the groundwork and becoming completely independent as artists releasing music.

What challenges have you encountered now that you’re entirely independent with your music?

Pretty much no challenges other than having to put in the yards and do all the distribution of merch and records.

Any plans to sign any artists to the label in 2018?

2018 is a super busy year for the band but we are constantly thinking of bands that could work well with the label. Myself and Jack have some side projects too that we might decide to release as part of the family.

The question in the back of every vinyl collectors mind: any represses planned in the near future?

Can’t spill any beans but hopefully in the near future 🙂

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have popped up on quite a few festival lineups as of late, has the support you’ve received surprised you at all?

I suppose we have been working towards this for a while off the back of three releases so it’s great to get some love and start playing some bigger shows.

PPC were recently announced as the support for Royal Blood’s sideshows, combined with the fact they voted for you in the Hottest 100, what were your reactions to these events?

We are stoked that they are digging the tunes and are super excited to play with them.

What part do you love the most about bringing your live shows to the other side of the country?

I think just playing to different crowds and different venues is nice and keeps it fresh. We always get such a buzz from the crowds over east.

Any tips for aspiring musicians?

When it comes to the music don’t put up any barriers or filters in what you want to create – just vomit it out. Someone out there is always going to love it as much as you do.

Huge thank you to Luke and the rest of the crew behind the label and band. Here’s a list of applicable links that you should check out.
